HLG - Horizontal Filter Separators
Horizontal Filter Separators are a common choice for gas conditioning. Advantages include the ability to handle higher concentrations of liquids and solids. A separate vessel mounted below contains a dirty side and clean side reservoir to store liquids.
Flow enters the vessel and meets diffuser pipes which help large droplets and slugs fall to the dirty side drain. Flow then passes through cartridges which trap solids and coalesce liquids. Flow continues to the second stage where a device such as a vane pack removes carry-over droplets causing them to fall out to the clean side drain.
VLG – Vertical Liquid Gas Coalescers
Vertical Coalescers are designed to meet higher removal efficiencies. Flow path is inside to outside which allows droplets to fall in a lower velocity environment. Vertical coalescers are ideal for final polishing and protection of sensitive equipment. Removal efficiencies to 0.3 micron are possible.
Flow enters the vessel and passes through a diffuser which separates bulk liquids which fall into the lower sump. Gas continues upward through the coalescer filters which polish the gas. Liquids drain to the upper sump.
HLGX – High Efficiency Separators
HLGX separators combine the positive attributes of both vertical & horizontal vessels into one design. Removal efficiencies closely match vertical coalescers and solids holding is greater than horizontal filter separators. Included are high capacity coalescer cartridges which can remove solids to 0.1 µm, making them ideal for black powder removal.
Due to its small size, Black Powder will usually pass through standard depth style coalescers which are used in horizontal separators. Vertical vessels with high efficiency coalescers can capture Black Powder but lack the solids holding ability to be cost effective. HLGX separators use large high capacity elements which hold up to 10 times the solids compared to standard coalescers.
